Our Story
Tasweerghar is an arts organization dedicated to creating new opportunities for diverse and emerging artists in Pakistan. We support skill development and provide platforms for artistic expression through projects that reflect prevalent themes and creative narratives. Our commitment lies in curating works by underrepresented artists, fostering community engagement, and enhancing participation. By working closely with artists, communities, and audiences, Tasweerghar aims to drive meaningful cultural development and broaden the reach of contemporary Pakistani art.
Tasweerghar was established in 2015 to primarily and extensively create a space for photographers in Pakistan. We focus on community building and expanding critical discourse on south Asian contemporary photography through exhibitions, talks and our annual residency program which began in 2017.
For the last nine years Tasweerghar has curated photography projects and contributed largely in celebrating established and upcoming photographers in Pakistan and Partnered with leading artists, scholars, and institutions to create interdisciplinary projects that push the boundaries of traditional art and photography presentation.

Rabbania is a visual artist and a curator based in Lahore, Pakistan and is interested in various aspects of life and nature. Trained as a street documentary photographer with a fine arts background, Rabbania is interested in everything between the study of light, social behaviours and personal histories. Shirjeel’s practice is intuition based and her photography practice takes the lead to depict personal and intellectual concerns varying from material to subjects and themes. Her work as a photographer represents her intellectual concerns through documenting everyday life scenes with multiple layers of questioning of social and cultural discourse and conditioning. Her ability to frame also compliments her aptitude as a curator to understand space and its impact.
Rabbania has curated projects under Tasweerghar and independently including Transforming Narratives, F.E.Chaudhary Memorial Photography competition in collaboration with National History Museum. She introduced Tasweerghar Annual Residency program in 2017 and since then has curated and organised art residencies. Rabbania successfully curated and showcased New Narratives in Photography which British Council’s first Art Residency Grants Programme in 2023-2024.
Rabbania’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including Gallery 39k, Lahore, Alhamra Arts Gallery, Lahore, The Drawing Room, Lahore, Sir Syed Memorial Complex, Islamabad, Millepiani, Italy and has been invited for artist talks and as a Jury including All Indian Summer, UK, Kalaboration Arts, UK, Kaaravan, Lahore, LUMS.

Rakshanda Atawar is a multi-disciplinary artists, curator and educator. She graduated from Punjab University Lahore in fine arts, painting in 1978. With a remarkable career spanning three decades, Rakhshanda has established herself as a leading figure in the world of art curation and education. Renowned for her innovative approach and dedication to the arts, she has curated numerous exhibitions that have garnered national and international acclaim. She was the one of the founding members and curator at 39-K Gallery in Lahore for 9 years and simultaneously was the Head of the Arts Department at National College of Business Administration and Economics.
As a practicing artists her work has been showcased nationally and internationally including Koel Gallery Karachi , Kuch Khaas Islamabad ,Satarang Gallery and Alhamra Arts Council Lahore. She was also invited to India to paint for The Taj Mahal anniversary in 2005.
Atawar was the Principle of Hunerkada, Institute of Visual and Performing Arts for 9 years reflecting their exceptional ability to engage diverse audiences and foster a deeper appreciation for the arts. Their contributions extend beyond the gallery walls, as they have played a pivotal role in shaping art education through dynamic teaching and mentorship. She is currently curating and mentoring at Tasweerghar.
